Children's
Fund reprieve
In the last issue of Network News we
reported that at the end of January 2004 the intention was to cut the
budget for Children's Fund activity across the country by 15% for the
year 2004/05, with further cuts anticipated in 2005/06.
Following
intense pressure from all connected with the services provided by this
fund, as well as the media attention and the expressed support from both
local councillors and Members of Parliament, the Department for Education
and Skills has 'found' additional money for this financial year.
Along with some changes related to the financial management
of the project, this means that Derby City Children's Fund will be able
to continue supporting the schemes during 2004-05 as already advised.
Whilst this is good news for schemes for this year we can't
be complacent, as decisions about next year have yet to be made.
Thank you to everyone who added their voice to the clamour
- this time we really did make a difference!
